History: Did you know that despite the fact that they are apex predators, the ocelot, cheetah, and mountain lion aren’t considered “big cats?” Typically, the “big cat” classification is reserved for the tiger, lion, jaguar, and leopard, and any similar coloration variation like the white tiger. Oddly enough, this distinction is established based on whether or not a species of cat has the adapted ability to roar, with cheetahs, ocelots, and mountain lions unable to do so.
