Giraffe adults might be the tallest animals around, but baby giraffes are no slouches – they can be up to 2 m tall and weigh over 100 kg. This baby giraffe figure makes a perfect companion for our adult giraffe.
History: While adult giraffes have very few natural predators, newborns are still dependent on their mothers for protection. Female giraffes will form something called a “nursery herd”, surrounding the young as they move from place to place. Giraffes have even been known to babysit the calves of others in the herd!
Scientific Name: Giraffa camelopardalis
Characteristics: Young giraffes look much like adults, only smaller: same long neck, same distinctive fur color pattern, and the same skin-covered knobs on the top of their heads called “ossicones”. This hand-painted figurine is excellent for educational purposes, play, or display in a collection.
Size: 7.3 cm long and 8.9 cm tall, our giraffe baby figurine is a touch bigger than a deck of cards stood upright.
